Tony Christianson is Chairman of Cherry Tree Companies, a financial services firm located in Minnetonka, Minnesota, which provides investment banking advice through its subsidiary Cherry Tree & Associates and wealth management services through its affiliate Adam Smith Advisors.
Tony is a native of Elbow Lake, Minnesota, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. John's University and later earned a master's degree in business administration from Harvard University, where he was a Baker scholar. He worked in the information technology division of Arthur Andersen, predecessor to Accenture, and in 1978 he became Vice President and Investment Officer of Minneapolis-based Northwest Growth Fund, predecessor to what is now known as Norwest Equity Partners.
In 1980, Tony joined Gordon Stofer, another Northwest Growth Fund Vice President, in forming Cherry Tree, which spent its formative years making investments in over 100 growth companies through several institutional venture capital funds. Today, Cherry Tree's investment banking business specializes in advising entrepreneurially managed companies, often helping them sell their business and occasionally helping them raise equity or debt capital. Cherry Tree's wealth management affiliate, Adam Smith Advisors, provides advice based on Modern Portfolio Theory to families and 401k plans.
